What are Specialist Meets?

Specialist Meets are designed for athletes who want to focus on a specific discipline or area of athletics.

By grouping athletes who run similar times or compete at similar levels, Specialist Meets create tighter competition. This provides athletes a fantastic opportunity to develop race-day tactics, as well as providing a competitive environment to achieve new Personal Bests or qualifying times.

Specialist Meets provide a tailored experience whilst still operating within the broader club and Athletics Victoria competition framework.

Specialist Competitions

AV Throwers

A specialist throws series focused on developing U20 and Open athletes in events such as discus, shot put, hammer throw, and javelin. The series includes World Athletics permit opportunities in listed events, which can support rankings and qualification pathways.

High Velocity Club

A sprint-focused specialist series for U20 and Open athletes, with strong emphasis on 100m, 200m and 400m racing across the season. Meet programs can also include events like hurdles, with scheduling and event lists varying by round. Listed permit events may be ratified for rankings and qualification outcomes under World Athletics/Athletics Australia settings.

Rare Air

A high-jumps and pole vault specialist competition stream with dedicated meet dates, start times, and venues. Fields are limited, with entry standards and capped athlete numbers used to manage competition quality. Where marked as permit meets, results can be ratified under World Athletics/Athletics Australia requirements.

Vic milers

A middle-distance focused competition hosting races ranging from 800m to the mile. Runners are placed into races with runners of similar ability, ensuring close competition and fast running.

All VMC meets are granted National Permit Meet status unless otherwise stated.
